ACOSSM wins Baltimore County's Good Neighbor Week 2004 Celebration Contest
The staff of the Owings Mills office of the Advanced Centers for Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine (ACOSSM) was recently recognized as THE award winner during Baltimore County's Good Neighbor Week 2004 Celebration Contest. They were among a group of 13 nominees, chosen from over a hundred entries, that were being considered for the Bridge Builder Award.
This award recognizes volunteer activities that advance harmony and understanding between different races, ethnicities and faiths. The office was recognized for multiple community outreach programs such as a food drive sponsored in the office called Friends Helping Friends. The food donated by practice staff members fed 13 families at Thanksgiving and stocked the food pantry at the Shepherd's Place. The office staff then sponsored a Giving Tree and donated hats and mittens to the children in a local Head Start Program. Among the other programs that demonstrated their generous community spirit was the adoption of a homeless family, a Pennies for Pews program that benefits churches building new facilities and a greeting card program for St. Jude's Children's Ranch.
This group of over 50 staff members is to be commended for their charitable commitments to the communities in which they live and work. At a recent luncheon Baltimore County Executive James Smith presented Susan Waskey, the office manager with a plaque and certificate for display in the office.
