Dr. Donald Saltzman specializes in general orthopaedics with an interest in sports medicine and joint replacement. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a member of many medical societies, including a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He served for six years as the Maryland Orthopaedic Representative to the Board of Councilors of the Academy. He currently is a member of the Academy's Professional Liability Committee. Dr. Saltzman has been an oral examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery for over 25 years.

Dr. Saltzman has been the chief of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwest Hospital Center since 1990. He has been on the Northwest Hospital Center Medical Executive committee for the past 20 years.

In 1967, Dr. Saltzman received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. His post-graduate training began at Baltimore City Hospital where he completed a one-year straight surgery internship and a one-year general surgery residency. He then did a three-year orthopaedic surgery residency at John Hopkins Hospital where he was chief resident in his final year. Dr. Saltzman also served as chief resident in orthopaedic surgery at Children's Hospital.
