Post Operative Care Instructions for Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion

By Myles D. Brager, M.D.
  1. You may resume your regular diet as soon as you are able.

  2. You may shower, taking care to keep your neck still. The dressing on your hip may be washed over and taken off in two to three days. The steri-strips on your neck may also be washed over and will eventually fall off. Keep the incision clean and dry.

  3. You must wear either the Philadelphia collar or 2-poster brace at all times.

  4. NO DRIVING UNTIL WE HAVE NOTIFIED YOU THAT IT IS PERMITTED.

  5. Do not take NSAIDS (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Celebrex®, Vioxx®, etc. These medications will interfere with the bone fusion.

  6. Make an appointment now to see Dr. Brager approximately two (2) weeks from your hospital discharge date.

  7. You may also have been prescribed medication, which you should take as directed.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call our office.
