Post Operative Care Instructions for Lumbar Discectomy

1. You may resume your regular diet as soon as you are able.

2. You may shower. The dressing is waterproof and may be washed over and removed in two (2) to three (3) days. The steri-strips underneath the dressing will eventually fall off.

3. NO SITTING, LIFTING, OR BENDING! You may sit for the ride home from the hospital. You may also sit to go to the bathroom using the elevated toilet seat provided for you.

4. We encourage you to walk inside and outside, including climbing stairs as much as you can tolerate.

5. No driving until we have notified you that it is permitted.

6. Make an appointment now to see Dr. Brager approximately two (2) weeks from your discharge date from the hospital.

7. Take the anti-inflammatory and pain medications prescribed to you as directed.
