Post Operative Instructions for Lumbar Instrumented Fusion
By Myles D. Brager, M.D., and Kelly J. Runkel, P.A.C.
You may resume your regular diet as soon as you are able.
You may shower. The dressing is waterproof and will be removed when you return to the office to have your staples removed.
No sitting, lifting or bending. You may have arrangements to go home in an ambulance; if you are riding home in a car, you may only sit for the ride.
Walking as much as tolerated is encouraged. It is okay for you to climb stairs.
No driving until we have notified you that it is permitted.
Please call the office the next business day after discharge to schedule an appointment soon after your discharge date from the hospital to have your staples removed.
The following medications are important for you to take for the success of your fusion:
Fe Gluconate (Iron) 300 mg twice per day
Calcium Supplement 1500 mg/day
Multi Vitamin, with Vitamin D included, once a day
You may also have been prescribed pain medication. If so, take as directed.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call our office.
