Samuel O. Matz, M.D.

Samuel O. Matz, M.D.Dr. Matz specializes in sports medicine. His expertise is in the field of arthroscopic surgery and surgery to the knee and shoulder. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Dr. Matz is the sports medicine director of the women's center at Carroll Hospital Center. He is the chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and the former chief of the medical staff at Carroll Hospital Center. In addition, Dr. Matz is an instructor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He is the medical director of LifeBridge Sports Medicine at Northwest Hospital Center. He has been head team physician at McDaniel College and Mount St. Mary's College since 1987.

Dr. Matz received his medical degree from the University of Maryland in 1981. His one-year internship in general surgery and three-year residency in orthopaedic surgery were both at the University of Maryland Hospital. In addition, he performed a knee and sports medicine fellowship at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine.

He has published extensively in sports medicine including articles on football, women's lacrosse and weight lifting. Dr. Matz lives in Reisterstown, MD with his wife and three daughters, all actively involved in sports.
